Experience
I have been tutoring for many years, starting in high school when I tutored in biology through the National Honor Society. After that, I tutored at Santa Fe Community college for a total of two and a half years. I also have experience in private tutoring, including all subjects for a tenth grader and GED math tutoring for two separate individuals. I took the SAT and three SAT II subject tests in 2003, with a 680 in English, 650 in Math, and for the subject tests, I scored a 660 in Molecular Biology, 620 in Writing, and a 610 in Literature. Tutoring and teaching are truly my callings. I want to continue being a tutor because of the satifaction I receive from helping students become better, more informed and self-sufficient scholars. I want to make a difference in how one views oneself, so I always look for ways to encourage students, especially by pointing out their strengths, being patient, and finding beauty in their work. I like to tutor a student throughout the process of learning; for example, I find it important to help from the conception to the final draft of a paper. I am a creative writing major, and so I am most proficient in English tutoring. I am a lover of grammar, a fan of the progression of confidence in writing skills, and a stickler for organization skills. My motto has always been to "work myself out of a job," which means that my goal in tutoring is to help students with study skills, writing skills, and the ability to perform well on their own.
