Ian M.
Private tutor in Santa Fe, NM
Education
I am a graduate of St. John's College, Santa Fe with a 3.85 cumulative gpa. (Because St. John's follows the traditional Great Books program, this gpa is indicative of my performance in math, science, literature, philosophy, and music theory classes, not just my specialization.)
Experience
I love teaching, not only to improve test scores, but as an opportunity for mutual learning. I am always delighted to explore new ways of covering familiar material. This approach works not only for literature but for math and science as well. In addition to one-on-one tutoring experience, I also have experience as a freshman and junior lab assistants and was co-head of senior lab this past year. In keeping with the discussion-based classes at St. John's, being a lab assistant means encouraging students to approach subject-matter through conversation and hands-on experience, not simply by memorization. In addition to extensive experience in a dialectical format, I also have worked in more traditional settings; in the summer after my freshman year I was accepted to pursue math research at UNC Asheville and after graduation I was hired as a writer for the Santa Fe Reporter.
